As I mentioned in a previous post, I placed an order for one of the new MacBook Pros the minute the Apple Stores came back online after the WWDC keynote. This is the low-end $1,699 15.4″ MBPs with a 2.53 GHz processor, 4 GB of 1066 MHz DDR3 RAM, 250 GB hard drive, the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics card, and the new included SD Cart slot. The delivery was extremely swift, as all orders off the Apple online store are. Lucky me, I took advantage of Apple’s education back-to-school discount, and I even got a free iPod touch out of it (by mail rebate).

My first impressions: it is remarkably fast, and Apple’s defaulting to 4 GB of RAM is a godsend. I’m all for the built-in Lithium Polymer 7 hour battery; i.e. I’m not in the camp of people who complain about the fact that it is user-unserviceable. 1,000 recharges and 5-year lifespan: how’s that not enough? When I do get the time, I will post a fuller review of it. Although there aren’t many hardware differences (apart from spec bumps), the SD card slot is a first to Macs.

As I promised, here are the photos I took of the unboxing of my brand new 15″ MacBook Pro.
