Apple yesterday began seeding yet another newer build of the next generation cat of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard to Developers. This is the second update to the Developers’ Preview build distributed after WWDC. In addition to an entire host of bug fixes and stability increases, one of the more prominent UI changes is to the Dock and stacks. The “List view” Stacks option is now no longer white, but a HUD-like transparent black. This new UI element has taken over all Dock menus, and is rumored to be the “Marble” interface that has been rumored and which is featured in the fade-away menus of QuickTime X.
Bugs in Mail.app 4.0 related to Exchange support, Exposé compatibility with multiple monitors, and the appearance of the finder’s slider bar have been tweaked as well. Snow Leopard is due to be released to all consumers for $29 for existing Leopard users, and $49 for the Family Pack, and has been dubbed a “Refinement OS”. Further discussions regarding this new build can be found in this MacRumors forums thread.

Thanks for the cool article! I’m wondering – is there any way to scroll in fan view in this build of Snow Leopard?

Good question. I just checked: nope, no way for that to be done. In my opinion, Fan view is kind of useless unless you only have 5 or 6 objects in the fan.

Yes, it’s a pity, fan view is my favourite so I hope they build in scrolling before Snow Leopard is released…

Correction, it’s gonna be $29 for existing Leopard users, not Tiger users. They’re gonna have to pay full.

@Kári thanks for the correction. I don’t know why I wrote ‘Tiger’ instead. I have made the change.
